2013 Brings Leading Cloud Provider to Desktone’s Global Network of Partners

January 8th, 2013

As we launch headlong into a new year that, according to IDC, promises to bring an increase of 91 million mobile users, Desktone is happy to welcome Dimension Data to our global network of service provider partners who have chosen to expand their cloud solution offerings with Desktone’s platform to enable them to deliver desktops and applications as a cloud service. With over 60 offices in APAC alone, Dimension Data further expands the Powered by Desktone network of providers. This expanded network of providers and locations is critical for virtual desktop performance. By having a data center close in proximity to the end user the latency is reduced and the performance is significantly improved.

Surveying the desktop virtualization marketplace, service providers quickly realize that only a few major players have risen to the top in their ability to meet the rapidly evolving needs of a always on, mobile workforce who demand access to their desktop environments anywhere, anytime from any device they choose (BYOD Bring Your Own Device).

Going a step further, and offering desktops as a cloud service (vs. costly and complex onsite VDI solutions) adds an additional layer of complexity requiring a technology that will enable service providers to grow their cloud solution offerings in a manner that is easy to use, secure, offers a scalable infrastructure, delivers true multi-tenancy and of course won’t break the bank.  Other virtual desktop vendors were built for enterprise deployments and are clearly missing key features required for cloud delivery.

Recognized by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service[i], Dimension Data looked around, considered their options, and chose to leverage Desktone’s Platform to enable their customers to better support corporate and remote workers, the rapid adoption of mobile computing and other enterprise initiatives in a way that’s scalable, improves performance and reduces operational costs and complexity.

Dimension Data is just one of the many global service provider partners leveraging Desktone’s platform to:

  • Flex infrastructure to align with demand and changes in business
  • Reduce capital expenditure while supporting BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
  • Provision, deploy and scale desktops on demand
  • Eliminate expense and complexity of building and maintaining on-premise infrastructure
  • Enable end-users to access any program and application from any device

Desktone looks forward to the inevitable growth in 2013 and beyond of cloud based solution adoption and helping service providers to deliver desktops as a service (DaaS) as the affordable alternative to enterprise VDI for device independence and lowered IT CAPEX.

With cloud-hosted virtual desktops, Dimension Data can deliver complete virtual desktops in a truly scalable cloud environment that’s easy to manage, without worrying about hardware or software costs.
